I recently acquired an advance copy (granted, 40+years late) of this book.  I’ve always had a soft spot for Rose, aka Empress Josephine, and a peculiar fascination with Emperor Napoleon, so this book was a treasure to find.

“A gasp of delight went up the night she appeared in her ‘rose petal gown’, hundreds of fresh rose petals of palest pink, scattered and tacked to cover and perfume every fold of the gleaming white satin…”

  • I still want to know why he always had his hand tucked…

I’ve always wondered if that was a real affectation of his or just something made up. I’ve only read a few books about him, but none mention the hand tucking.
